Harry Potter weekend.

I have just watched the Order of the Phoenix, had a bit of a catch up as I tend to forget things over time (age) and tomorrow night I will watch the Half-Blood Prince before seeing the Deathly Hallows part 1 on Sunday...not sure I can bring myself to see part 2 - its the end! Sad indeed, but curiosity will overcome! Some may scoff, but my life is richer because of Hogwarts, there is always room for fantasy in life, no matter how old you are.

New blog

This blog will be staying but I am now also on Wordpress at gemmalreece.wordpress.com so do have a look!

My article about Amy Winehouse

The death of a young woman who happened to be famous and have addiction issues has brought out the worst in some people - read more HERE

Amy Winehouse.

I have to admit I wasn't a fan, but some of the venomous comments I have heard and seen, both in the press and from my friends has shocked me. Leave the poor girl alone, she never hurt you. We all have problems, she may not have lived as some would have liked, but honestly - is it worth these comments?! I have written an article about it and once it has been approved by the editors I will post it here.

Graves

I spent a very nice afternoon in the sun tending some of my family's graves, those on my Dad's side. It was so peaceful in the churchyard, just me and the birds. After clipping and putting some fresh flowers I just sat for a while taking it in. I go quite regularly, those and the graves of my Mum's family, I spend a lot of time in graveyards, and I find them fascinating places to be. I even wrote about it HERE.

Atlantis

I am currently watching the coverage of Atlantis' final landing on NASA TV, the end of a 30 year era of amazing exploration, experiment and pride. She landed safely back at the Kennedy site which is the most important thing, but I watch with a sadness in my heart, I have grown up loving all things space related and the shuttle programme has been a huge part of that, to see it sitting on the runway, knowing it will never fly again brings a lump to my throat. Also for the team, many of which will be losing their jobs at the end of the day, having been a part of the greatest scientific achievement of recent times.

Tank you Atlantis, Discovery, Endeavour, Columbia, Challenger, Enterprise - thank you NASA.

Busy bee!

Hi all, haven't blogged for a bit, we are getting ready for the Festival at the Edge this weekend where the Rehome-a-Book gazebo will be poised ready for business - but to be honest we just love being there, such a great event!

Anyway, in other news, the garden has gone crazy with cucumbers, the tomatoes are turning colour nicely and the beetroot are being pickled as fast as we can pick them! Soon we will have peppers and aubergines so I will be making vats of ratatouille - yum!

So, I hope you are all well, please send us good weather vibes for the weekend and I'll check in soon. :)

Headache

I think we need a good thunder storm to lighten the air and shift this very inconvenient headache I seem to have acquired! It is making work very tiresome, I have done a lot to the online shop for Rehome-a-Book today so looking at a screen wouldn't have helped, but I need to crack on with research, at the moment it is related to ghostly happenings involving multiple spirits - gangs of them if you will. A small girl being tormented by seven of them is the highest number so far, very intense... and probably not helping the headache either!

Anyway, back to it, hope you are all pain-free and having a good day.

How to pickle fresh beetroot!

Read my tips on how to make this delicious product. :)

Veg

I haven't blogged for a whole week - this is not the way it should be! In my defense it has been quite warm so I haven't been very 'with it' and when I have been active we have been harvesting the veggies from the garden which is blooming! I have just boiled some beetroot ready for pickling and later on I shall be shelling broad beans - there is a certain happiness and contentment that comes from jobs like that.

Anyway, before that and while the beetroot are cooling I must go into town for shopping and to see what the library has to offer.
Bye for now!
