They played at our wedding nearly seven years ago so it is great to see them doing well. Now, the husband is asleep in bed snoring loudly with the cat by his side...and I am on the sofa trying to get some peace. Could be a long night!Gem Reece-Hollowayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989416537187326521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7168490760319522443.post-5051761769449939902022-01-26T12:49:00.001+00:002022-01-26T12:49:32.896+00:00Long time away...
I am thinking of starting the blog again, a place to share and reflect on things as it was meant to be. The Moonlit Myths blog is where I have been occasionally posting. We have had some tough times of late, the sudden passing of my lovely Mum being the most recent. Naturally, sleep has been sporadic at best but having this to ramble on at 3am may help...we'll see I guess! Anyway, for those who see this I hope you are well.

Gem.
Gem Reece-Hollowayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989416537187326521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7168490760319522443.post-67159965947487706392019-10-18T16:37:00.000+01:002019-10-18T16:37:56.006+01:00Winter creeping in.During the spring and summer I have been very motivated (for me) and have been going out for a walk each morning, usually between 7 and 7.30am ... but now the mornings are too dark, today it hasn't really got light at all, rain wall-to-wall so I am going to have to change my routine. The thing I like about walking first thing is that it sets me up for the day, I feel more creative and I don't have to interact with anyone purely because there is nobody around. It is 'my' time and I will miss it. I am generally a big fan of Autumn and Winter, I prefer it cooler, love cooking stews and things in the slow cooker, and I like cozy nights, but there is always a drawback and I think I have found it! Never mind, roll on spring.
Not much to ask for really. Aside from that things were good, lots of films were watched, friends and family seen, far too much to eat as usual.

It is back to relative normality today, the Husband was back to work at 7am, I got back into my daily habits and its like the festive season never happened...apart from the tinsel still adorning the pictures in the living room.

Anyway, here's to 2019, be a good year please!Gem Reece-Hollowayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989416537187326521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7168490760319522443.post-32069063003011742832018-11-12T15:07:00.000+00:002018-11-12T15:07:42.593+00:00They Shall Not Grow Old..We went into town for Remembrance Sunday as usual this year, a glorious morning especially following the vile weather we have had of late, there was a great turn out and as the town fell silent a mood of communal pride was palpable. It is always a chance for people to come together and honour those who gave their everything - whether you agree with the reasons, the fact remains that so many died in wars that wasn't their choosing, from all countries and they should, in my opinion be remembered.

The rest of the day was normal Sunday happenings, cooking, eating, getting ready for the week ahead but with an overtone of it not just being another day. Last night we watched Peter Jackson's 'They Shall Not Grow Old'...my god. It was an amazing film, horrific, incredible and humbling, a view of the war that not many will ever experience, real lives and stories. I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for all soldiers, but what a terrible shame that the world doesn't seem to have learned a thing.
We awoke this morning to a frost, white roof and a chill in the air...then the wind picked up and it instantly felt arctic! Luckily I put my fuchsias in the greenhouse yesterday in readiness due to the forecast, fingers crossed they survive the winter. As the clocks change in the early hours of tomorrow morning, the days will become shorter and temperatures will generally drop...although to be honest I don't mind, I like cosying up, there are potatoes baking in the oven as I type.

Anyway, wherever you are, keep toasty!
Granted, not earth-shattering news for anyone but me, but still.

Going to the hairdressers is also something my Mum and me do and have done for years, she has short hair so goes every 6 weeks or so, but when I go to we make a morning of it, plus a catch up with local 'news' from the girls at the salon.
Home now and work for the afternoon have a good rest of your day folks.Gem Reece-Hollowayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989416537187326521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7168490760319522443.post-50816719471517600392018-10-13T00:02:00.000+01:002018-10-13T00:02:53.860+01:00Storm Callum.Well, it's nearly midnight and Storm Callum is blowing a hoolie outside, the rain is thrashing down too. I have seen many reports today of trees blown down and roads blocked, I hope everyone stays safe and there isn't too much damage, although the worst is said to come yet. It does make me feel cosy, warm inside with the wild weather out there, when daylight comes I'll see if there is anything blown over in the garden.

I am lucky, I'm in my home, with the cat, husband and a camping stove in case the power goes off, I worry for those sleeping rough in weather like this, those with little shelter, knowing that the small amount I donate to charities does little to help.
Yesterday I went for a walk, there was a small plane buzzing overhead and I didn't need a jacket, beautiful. Colder, more seasonal weather is forecast for the weekend, so make the most of today in the UK!
I can hear some of you gasping, maybe a revulsion to Marmite, and possibly its pairing with cheese, others due to the philistine behaviour of having a very nice wine with it! However, I am hoping at least one or two of you will appreciate the niceness 😉. I am also watching Vera, can't beat a good murder.Gem Reece-Hollowayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989416537187326521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7168490760319522443.post-85867876078648688012018-10-09T11:11:00.000+01:002018-10-09T11:11:09.177+01:00Bit of promotion.Hi folks, I haven't used this blog in AGES (quite obviously, the last pictures are of snow for goodness sake!) but I am back, with my ramblings and I will also cross-post some links to the Pagan Nature site and blog - it all helps views and promotion for my little business, I'm sure you don't mind...its interesting I promise!
For the last 3 days we have been in a white world, schools and businesses closed, lots of photographs being taken. But today it is thawing, the colour of the world is gradually coming back, and everything is dripping, hopefully it won't freeze again tonight and make the ground a sheet of ice...but I have my doubts! We had -13 the night before last, and it was very cold last night too so we'll see.

Hope you are warm wherever you are!
But eventually, after all this time, and thanks to Netflix I am now on board the Poldark train!

Whilst searching for something to watch (as often happens) it came up in the 'recommended for you' list, and I happened to be in the mood for a historical drama...I also love Cornwall as we went there for our honeymoon. So I clicked on it and began episode one, instantly loved what I was seeing.

So, if you like them are thinking 'Duh! We could have told you that' in relation to the greatness of this programme, my apologies - now excuse me, I have more to watch!

So its a happy Saturday thus far, and tonight we can roll the blind down and appreciate it's glory! I hope you are having a good day too out there.
From all the plants that sprouted, and two failed pumpkins which we lost to damage and slugs (bane of my life) we were left with one...rather rugby-ball shaped pumpkin, goal achieved!

So, I went to it last night, knife in hand ready to create my usual jagged-mouthed face, but when I cut into it the flesh was so think I couldn't do much with it - design wise at least.I had managed to grow a pumpkin dense enough to feed a healthy number of people (if useless for artistic creations). So decision made...my beauty has been turned into soup, and lots of it, the left over flesh is cubed and in the freezer.

Thank you pumpkin, you have / will feed us well!
We went out last night as we usually do on a Sunday, and when we walked home at around 10.30, it was freezing...literally. Frost- the first of this autumn - was coating everything in sparkles, and it was a beautiful, clear night with stars glinting overhead. luckily the central heating was on when we opened the front door, and we warmed up very quickly...brrr.

On getting out of bed this morning at 6am, the frost was still there, and it was getting light. Last week it was still dark at that time with no birds singing, what a difference an hour makes! Although it will be dark at 5pm, that early morning bit of light helps the day get going!
I have been helping out on a friend's food stall at various events and have travelled around a lot of the country meeting great people and seeing lovely places, it is over now, so time to get back to my 'thing' and work from home, make my jewellery for Etsy (pagannature.etsy.com) and enjoy autumn and winter.

I love this time of year - being a jumper and blanket type of person, so when others including my husband are complaining about the cold, rain and dark, I am quietly reveling in it! Even down to cooking, stews, roasts, stodgy puddings...total comfort food.

So, I have sorted my wardrobe, summer things away, winter things rediscovered, set the heating timer so it never really gets too chilly in the house and have stocked up on stock cubes and tins in the food cupboard...bring it on winter.

When is your favourite time of year? Let me know, and if it's now I hope you are well. I'm on twitter @gemmsky if you want to connect there :)
Is it some kind of in-built reflex, something in his DNA, like when he watches birds and chatters at the window...he's never caught or eaten one yet knows he should. It may be a mystery among cat owners, but something fascinating nonetheless.
I was woken by rain and wind during the night, and although it makes a warm bed seem extra cosy with a storm raging outside, my poor husband had to go out in it to work at 5.30am! The cat however has had a lovely morning sitting in the kitchen window watching leaves blowing around, one happy customer for Doris at least.

Stay safe everyone!Gem Reece-Hollowayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989416537187326521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7168490760319522443.post-58796923070519480702017-01-19T15:25:00.000+00:002017-01-19T15:25:45.028+00:00New Home, carry on.Hi all, there has been an absence of posting once again, but I do have a valid excuse...kind of! We have just moved house, and although it took a long (ish) time, a lot of swearing and a near divorce, we are in and nearly settled...and have wifi due to a borrowed dongle so I feel a bit more in touch with the world again!

There are still some boxes and bags to be sorted through, and a wardrobe to build (which will alleviate the bag situation) but the end is in sight.

So, a bit late but still important, happy new year! Hope you had lovely Christmases and here's to the upcoming year.Gem Reece-Hollowayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00989416537187326521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7168490760319522443.post-62052611917240363042016-11-17T13:39:00.000+00:002016-11-17T13:39:25.772+00:00First stormy day...After turning in at around 5am this morning (usual night owl behavior) I fell straight to sleep and woke up to a very stormy day, the rain and wind lashing at the window, cars making swooshing noises as they drove by and a distinct chill in the air - the first real autumnal storm has arrived.

I like a storm, it makes me feel awake, the way trees dance and that weird light that comes with violent weather is really special, but then I am lucky to live in a warm dry home, it would be a totally different story otherwise, and I always think of homeless souls and those who have their homes damaged by this kind of weather. There are reports on the news today of storm damage at the coast, caravans being torn to bits and big waves smashing town defenses. Thoughts are with them.

So today will mostly be spent indoors, drinking coffee, and making things for etsy...not bad.
He is beautiful, but then we are biased so it was lovely to hear that :)

In 2 weeks he goes to have his 'little operation' after which he will hopefully lose part of his Tasmanian devil type playtime madness...but there is no guarantee! Toes, flappy trousers and anything he can pounce on gets attacked at the moment, and he runs at around 1000 miles per hour ;) Now though, he is curled up as I type - helpful chap, tired after a busy day.
